Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by summarizing key features from the line graph, such as mentioning the highest rate in the USA and the lowest in Korea. However, the information is presented in a somewhat disjointed manner, and several specific data points are inaccurate or poorly described (e.g., describing the USA as below 50% in 1970 and rising to below 80% in 2020). The overview paragraph is extremely vague, stating only that proportions and years are shown alongside general country rankings. While the main trends are touched upon, the lack of precision and under-developed comparisons place this submission within the Band 5 descriptor range, where the task is addressed only partially and ideas are limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is divided into paragraphs, including an introduction, a basic overview, and body paragraphs focusing on different countries. However, the overall progression is difficult to follow due to weak cohesive devices and mechanical referencing (e.g., 'the usa', 'the england', 'the canada'). Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is frequently faulty. For example, sentences in the body paragraphs jump abruptly between countries without logical links or clear chronological flow. This level of organization and cohesive control aligns with Band 5, which features some overall structure but lacks clear progression and uses cohesive devices inadequately or inaccurately.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, with frequent unnatural collocations such as 'overweight prices' and 'oversize rate' instead of 'overweight rates' or 'proportion of overweight people'. There are numerous word choice and spelling errors throughout the text (e.g., 'choosen', 'countires', 'touces', 'remaing'). While the response manages to communicate basic concepts related to the graph, the lexical range is narrow and noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader. These characteristics correspond directly to Band 5, where the vocabulary is minimally adequate but features persistent errors in word choice and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentences, but grammatical control is weak. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'proportion of oversize and years is are there', 'The spain and austria is'), incorrect prepositions, and missing articles. Punctuation and capitalization are also problematic, as seen in lowercase country names and run-on sentences. Complex structures are often faulty and cause frequent errors that hinder readability. Consequently, this performance fits the Band 5 descriptor, where a limited range of structures is used with frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader.
