Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt by reporting on the overweight rates in nine selected countries over a period of time. However, it fails to meet several key criteria for a higher band. First, the term 'overweight prices' is used incorrectly throughout instead of 'rates' or 'proportions'. Second, the overview of the main trends is extremely weak and lacks a clear summary of the overall picture. Instead of selecting key features and comparing countries effectively, the writer lists data decade by decade in a repetitive and mechanical manner, heavily focusing on the USA and Korea while barely mentioning other countries such as England or France. According to the official band descriptors, this reflects Band 5, as the task is addressed only partially, details are mechanical, and comparisons are largely absent.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks logical progression and effective paragraphing. The response begins with two repetitive introductory sentences ('The line graph below describes...' followed immediately by 'In this graph describes...'). The body of the text is grouped into a single, dense block of sentences rather than being clearly divided into logical paragraphs by time periods or key trends. Furthermore, cohesive devices are weak and repetitive, relying heavily on phrases like 'according to graph timeline' and 'In the year of...'. There is no clear flow of ideas, making it difficult for the reader to follow a coherent argument or comparison. This corresponds to Band 4, where information and ideas are not arranged coherently.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive. The most glaring error is the consistent misuse of the word 'prices' instead of 'rates' or 'proportions' ('overweight prices'). Other lexical choices are imprecise or incorrect, such as 'USA holds highest rates' and 'korea is deleberately lowest overweight rates' (where 'deleberately' is both misspelled and semantically wrong). There are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'Acoording', 'deleberately', 'less then') and a very limited range of vocabulary suitable for describing graphical data. This falls squarely into Band 4, as basic vocabulary is used repetitively and errors frequently strain the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is severely limited, consisting mainly of simple, repetitive sentence structures ('USA holds highest rates...', 'England holds less...', 'Korea has lowest rates...'). There are frequent and systematic errors in tense usage, prepositions, articles, and comparative structures (e.g., 'less then 50 percent increases steadily and reach graph peak', 'In the year of 1970 overweight rates USA holds...'). Punctuation is also faulty, with missing commas and run-on structures. Because the majority of sentences contain grammatical or mechanical errors that impede smooth reading and the range of structures is very restricted, the performance aligns with Band 4.
