Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features, trends, and comparisons of the provided line graph. An appropriate overview is included at the beginning, pointing out the general upward trend across all countries, as well as highlighting the extremes represented by the USA and Korea. Key data points are accurately cited, such as the USA starting at approximately 45% and finishing over 70%, and Korea maintaining the lowest rates throughout the timeframe. The response meets all requirements for Task Achievement at a Band 7.5 level, as the information is well-selected and clearly supported.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression. It begins with an introductory paragraph, moves into a clear overview, and subsequently divides the body information into logical groupings. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Looking at the details', and 'Moving on to remaining data' are employed to guide the reader through the text, although some transitions could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately and effectively, contributing to a coherent overall arrangement that clearly aligns with the Band 7 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate to good range of vocabulary suitable for an academic task, utilizing terms such as 'illustrates', 'proportion', 'upward trend', and 'projected future'. There are some successful attempts at less common phrasing like 'maintained the lowest rate throughout the timeframe' and 'surged up'. However, there are minor awkward phrasings such as 'Moving on to remaining data' which lack a preposition, and minor punctuation issues. Overall, the lexical range is sufficient to support clear communication, meeting the criteria for Band 6.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response contains a healthy mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including introductory subordinate clauses ('As well as the USA consistently recorded...') and comparative forms. While many sentences are error-free, there are occasional minor slips, such as missing punctuation at the very end of the essay and minor prepositional tracking errors. The grammatical control is generally good, and these errors do not impede communication, placing the response solidly at Band 7.0.
