The line graph below shows past and current overweight rates, as well as a projected future overweight rate in nine selected countries.

Summarise the infonnation by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Past and projected future overweight rates in selected OECD countries

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The ligh graph compares the overweight percentage of past and present, predicting future rate in between 1970 and 2020 of nine selected OECD countries namely, USA, England, Canada, Spain, Austria, Italy, Australia, France and Korea.

Overall, all the countries followed a rising trend with highest available data of USA and least of Korea. Amongs the all the highest increase was of Australia, and USA and lowest of Korea.

The overweight rate in USA surged from about 45% in 1970 to 75% in 2020 similarly, for Australia 35% in 1980 to 65% in 2020, followed by England with 48% to 69% from 1990 to 2020. The gradual increase can be seen in Canada(49% in 1994 to 55% in 2020), Italy(37% in 1994 to 46% in 2020) additionally, Austria (39% in 1982 to 47% in 2020). Moreover, France also has a fluctuation rate between 1990 and 2020 at 30% to 45% respectively. At last, the increase rate of Spain went from 43% in 1987 to 55% in 2020 while that of Korea rised from 25% to 35% in 1998 and 2020 respectively.
