Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response attempts to summarize the main trends from the line graph across the nine selected countries, but it struggles significantly with data accuracy and organization. For instance, the writer claims that Spain increased 'to 65%', whereas the graph shows it reaching approximately 55%. Furthermore, important information is either misread or poorly synthesized, such as stating France had an '11% increase' or detailing minor country-by-country data points without establishing a coherent overview of overall trends. While the prompt's countries are mentioned, the lack of an overarching summary and numerous inaccuracies in data reporting prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text suffers from a major structural flaw: it is written as one continuous, single paragraph without any paragraph breaks. This makes the progression difficult to follow and visually overwhelming. Cohesive devices are weak, repetitive, and overly reliant on colloquial transitions like 'Then comes Austria' or 'then we have Canada'. There is a lack of clear logical organization, as the data jumps haphazardly between countries without a structured grouping by trends or time periods. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, and punctuation errors further disrupt the flow of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive, heavily relying on words like 'ratio', 'percentage', 'increased', and 'comes'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, but these are often used inaccurately or unidiomatically, such as 'very similar ststes' or 'very less changes'. Word choice and collocations lack precision. Spelling mistakes are also present throughout the response (e.g., 'droped', 'tge', 'ststes', 'wil'). The lexical range is adequate only for very basic communication and lacks the flexibility expected for Academic Task 1.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical structure of the response is characterized by pervasive run-on sentences and comma splices. For example, the entire text is essentially linked by commas rather than proper periods or subordinate clauses (e.g., 'Then comes Austria, in 1982 the ratio was 39% but since then...'). There is a very limited range of complex structures attempted, and those that are attempted are frequently faulty. Punctuation and capitalization are poorly controlled throughout the piece. Grammatical errors frequently strain the reader and obscure the intended meaning.
