The line graph below shows past and current overweight rates, as well as a projected future overweight rate in nine selected countries.

Summarise the infonnation by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The line graph illustrates the previous, present and predicted overweight rates in nine selected nations from 1970 to 2020.

Overall, the overweight rates has increased significantly over a period and is likely to rise in the upcoming years.

Looking at USA, it stood at around 47% in 1970, dipped to about 43% in 1980, and then predicted to peak at approximately 72% in 2020. England started at roughly 47% in 1990 and projected to reach about 70% in 2020. Spain stood at 42% in 1986 and is predicted to reach at 55% in 2020. Italy began at around 38% in 1995 and is projected to rise 45% in 2020. Canada stood at nearly 50% in 1995 and is expected to climb at 55 % in 2020.

Moving on to Austria , it started at around 39% in 1982 and remained constant till 1990. However it is expected to go up and down before reaching to about 47% in 2020. France began at 30 % in 1990 and went up and down and is predicted to peak at 42% in 2020. Korea is at the lowest starting at around 24% in 1990 and will rise to around 35% in 2020. Australia started at 32% in 1987 and is expected to reach a peak at 68% in 2020.
