Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response attempts to summarize the main trends from the line graph, correctly identifying the USA as having the highest overweight rates and Korea as the lowest. However, the task achievement is limited by several inaccuracies and vague reporting. For instance, the text states that 'USA had the largest share then any all other categories' and mentions that 'Italy ranked 2nd by Australia at the end,' which is confusing and misinterprets the actual chart data where England was generally second highest. Furthermore, the overview lacks precision and the progression of countries is muddled by grammatical issues and vague referencing. While some key features are noted, the overall development and selection of data lack clarity, placing it firmly in the lower-middle bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks clear logical organization and progression throughout. Paragraphing is weak, with awkward transitions between sentences such as 'In detail, firstly USA had the top overweighted rates...' and 'Ultimately, France and Korea contributed for the samller figures respectively.' Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, and the referencing between pronouns and subjects is frequently confusing (e.g., 'whereas the Korea represented the lowest overweight rates... however, USA had the largest share then any all other categories'). The overall structure feels disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and often inaccurate. The student uses terms like 'overweight rates', 'share', and 'figures', but makes numerous word choice and spelling errors, such as 'nowdays' instead of nowadays, 'nins' instead of nine, 'overweighted' instead of overweight, 'flucuated' instead of fluctuated, 'osscilate' instead of oscillate, 'consituated' instead of constituted, and 'samller' instead of smaller. Attempts at less common vocabulary are unsuccessful due to severe collocation and spelling errors. The lexical range is minimally adequate to convey basic concepts but errors frequently strain the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response shows a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex or comparative structures are heavily flawed by frequent errors, such as 'then any all other categories', 'USA increased rates increased over the years', and 'Italy ranked 2nd by Australia at the end.' Punctuation and article usage are also problematic throughout the text (e.g., missing articles before 'USA', 'Korea', 'France', and 'Italy'). Errors are frequent, affecting both simple and complex sentence forms and occasionally causing difficulty for the reader.
