Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the main trends in the line graph, identifying the upward trajectories of countries like the USA and England, as well as providing specific data points such as the 1970 starting figure for the USA. However, the overview is extremely confused and ungrammatical ('while USA experience a significant upward trend while England also showed an increase in trend'), making it difficult to fully grasp a clear summary of the overall trends. Furthermore, some data points are inaccurate or poorly supported; for instance, the USA peak is stated as 75% in 2020 whereas the graph shows 74%, and Canada's trend is misread ('bottoming out at 48 % in year 2000' when it dropped then rose). Despite covering several selected countries, the lack of a clear, coherent overview and instances of misreported data limit the task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is divided into four short paragraphs, representing an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs, which shows an attempt at logical structure. However, paragraphing and overall cohesion are severely disrupted by punctuation errors, lack of full stops, and awkward transitions. Sentences often run into one another without proper boundaries, such as in the introduction ('nine selected country. over a year period...'). Cohesive devices are either missing or misused (e.g., 'CANADA, AUSTRIA, ITALY, SPAIN, KOREA all these country have shown an increase...'), resulting in a mechanical and disjointed progression of ideas that impedes smooth reading.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, relying on standard terms like 'increase', 'trend', 'rose', and 'figure'. There are noticeable lexical and morphological errors, such as 'overweights' instead of 'rates of overweight', 'country' instead of 'countries', and awkward word choices like 'under went a dramatic a plunge'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success or inaccuracy, and word formation is frequently flawed. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic topic, but errors in collocation and spelling strain understanding at times.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and flawed complex constructions. There are frequent, noticeable grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('while USA experience'), missing articles, incorrect prepositions, and severe punctuation failures (e.g., lowercase letters at the start of sentences after periods or run-on structures). Attempts at complex sentences often result in faulty syntax and confusing clauses. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and demonstrate weak control over basic grammar.
