IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The line graph below shows past and current overweight rates, as well as a projected future overweight rate in nine selected countries.

Summarise the infonnation by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The line graphs illustrate the proportion of overweight people from past to projected future ([redacted phone]) in selected nine OECD countries( USA, canada,spain,korea,England, Austria, Australia,France,Italy)

Overall, USA has the highest percentage of overweight people which rose from 1970 to 2020 in an increasing way with a dip in 1980. England has the second highest overweight population all over the time.All the other countries had undergone certain ups and down but inclined steadily. Korea has the lowest overweight people which started its counting from around 1980 and it also would rise steadily in future.

USA having the highest overweight people started its counting from 1970(around 45%) with a dip in 1980(about 42%) then rose in a steady way which will be about 75% in 2020.

On the other hand,Australia, France,England these three countries' counting started from around 1990 and the proportion was respectively around 34%,30% and 46%. The number then rose steadily with certain incline and decline in case of France and England. As for Australia, the percentage increased in a steady state till 2020.

The proportion of overweight people in Austria and Spain had about 38%(around 1982) and 42%(around 1985) which had showed a certain fluctuations in case of Austria and only a dip in 2002 for spain and then both the line rose steadily upto 2020.

Moreover, the percentage of overweight people in Canada,Italy, Korea started its counting in between 1990 to 2000 was respectively 48%,36% and 25% which also further raised steadily with certain fluctuations upto 2020.
