Summarise the infonnation by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Past and projected future overweight rates in selected OECD countries
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The line graph illustrates both past and present overwight rates along with future predicted rates in nine countries(the USA, Canada, England, Spain, Italy, Austria, Australia, France and Korea).
Overall, the overweight rates of the USA remained the highest in the past and it is projected to be the highest amongst all in the future as well. While Spain has shown a steady increase which matches with the pattern of Canada and Korea too, Australia has experienced quite the opposite and the rates have increased dramatically over time.
France has experienced a lot of fluctuations over time and is expected to steadily increase surpassing Italy in 2010 yet again coming below it thereafter. On one hand, Italy was quite stable with its rates but its projected to experience a sharp rise between 2010 and 2020 whereas, on the other hand, England, Spain and Austria have been gradually increasing over the years and is expected to follow the same pattern.
The USA remained the country with the highest overweight rates and is predicted to continue its path being at the top. In contrast, Korea has the lowest rates, however the figures are expected rise in upcoming years. Australia has accelerated its rates over time and is expected to increase further more.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by selecting countries from the line graph and making relevant comparisons. For instance, you correctly identify that the USA remained the highest and Korea had the lowest rates. However, some ideas are under-developed or contain inaccuracies regarding the visual data. For example, your claim that Spain's pattern matches Canada and Korea is insufficiently supported, and your details regarding France and Italy crossing over are partially confused against the actual trends. To reach a higher level, ensure that all main trends and comparative figures are reported with greater precision and extended with clearer supporting details from the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement and attempts to structure information into an introduction and body paragraphs. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or repetitive, resulting in a lack of clear overall progression. For instance, the final paragraph largely restates points already made in the second paragraph, such as the positions of the USA and Korea, rather than introducing new supporting data or maintaining a logical flow. Additionally, referencing is occasionally imprecise, and cohesive devices like "On one hand" and "on the other hand" are used somewhat mechanically. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a distinct focus and that ideas progress logically without unnecessary repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
An adequate range of vocabulary is used for the task, with attempts to incorporate less common items and functional phrases such as "projected future overweight rates," "steady increase," and "fluctuations over time." However, there are a few word-choice errors and spelling slips that slightly detract from precision, such as writing "overwight" instead of "overweight" and awkwardly phrasing "accelerated its rates." The range is sufficient to communicate the main features of the chart, but to achieve a higher score, you should demonstrate greater control over less common vocabulary and ensure precise collocations when describing statistical trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like relative clauses and introductory dependent clauses successfully in sentences such as "While Spain has shown a steady increase which matches with the pattern of Canada and Korea too." There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as subject-verb agreement issues ("its projected to experience" instead of "it is projected") and missing articles or prepositions in phrases like "continuing its path being at the top." These errors are noticeable but rarely impede communication. To improve, aim for greater accuracy in complex sentence patterns and check for minor slip-ups in punctuation and auxiliary verbs.
