Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping short at 107 words. While the student attempts to summarise the data by identifying some general trends and countries, the information is presented in a fragmented, repetitive manner. Key features are inadequately reported, and some figures are misstated (such as claiming the USA reached 85% or that Italy and Austria stood at 55%). The overview is incomplete and lacks a clear, fully developed summary of the overall trends depicted in the line graph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged in a fully coherent manner. The response suffers from a lack of clear progression, resulting in fragmented paragraphs and repetitive comparisons between countries across different sections. While basic cohesive devices such as 'Overall' and 'additionally' are attempted, referencing and logical sequencing are faulty, making it difficult for the reader to follow a clear overarching structure throughout the task.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing simple terms like 'highest', 'lowest', 'rate', and 'percent'. There are notable word choice and phrasing errors, such as 'upcoming time' instead of future, as well as spelling mistakes like 'canada', 'austria', and 'nation' with inconsistent capitalization. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task, but lexical limitations and inaccuracies prevent effective communication of precise data points.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, relying heavily on basic sentence structures with frequent errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement and word forms, such as 'The graph illustrate' instead of illustrates, 'canada and spain has' instead of have, and 'Italy and Austria hass also'. Punctuation and capitalization are also erratic throughout the response, and complex sentence forms are absent or incorrect, causing some difficulty for the reader.
