Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt by reporting some data from the line graph, but it does so only partially. While it provides an overall statement and mentions several countries such as the USA, England, and Australia, the selection of information lacks balance and key features are missed. Furthermore, some of the data reported contains inaccuracies when compared to the visual reference, such as England's starting point and Australia's initial value. The overview provided at the end is very basic and the general position is not fully developed or extended.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text shows some organization and attempts to group information by countries, but there is no clear overall progression throughout the response. The transitions between sentences and paragraphs feel disjointed, and cohesive devices are repetitive or inadequately used, with excessive reliance on words like 'then' and 'also'. Paragraphing is also poorly managed, as the text is clumped together into large blocks rather than structured logically into a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word forms—such as 'porportion', 'presnt', and 'fluctuates'—which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The range of vocabulary is restricted, and while the student attempts some less common terms like 'fluctuates' and 'surge', these are accompanied by frequent lexical slips and inappropriate collocations like 'joined OECD countries most late'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammar demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex clauses that turn out faulty. There are persistent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles—such as 'The line graph illustrate', 'England rate start', and 'which start in 1990 by 31%'. These frequent grammatical errors occur across simple and complex structures alike and can cause strain for the reader.
