Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response attempts to address all parts of the task by reporting past and projected overweight rates for the listed countries. However, the development of ideas is limited and uneven. While you manage to provide some relevant details and comparisons, several figures and timelines are misread or inaccurate against the source data. For instance, you mention that in 1970 the proportion started at nearly 46%, whereas the graph shows different starting points for individual countries, and several countries listed (like Australia, England, and Korea) did not even have recorded data starting in 1970 on this specific chart. Additionally, the overview section simply states that rates increased throughout the period without clearly highlighting the most significant overarching trends or the highest/lowest final projections. To improve, ensure you carefully verify the data points on the axes and select the most striking comparative features for a clearer summary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your response maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs dedicated to grouping the countries. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. You rely heavily on repetitive transitional phrases like 'and finally stood at' and 'throughout the period' to link your points. Referencing and progression can also be confusing due to grouping multiple countries with varying trends into single complex sentences, such as in the final body paragraph where Austria, Italy, and France are bundled together with mixed timelines. To reach a higher band, use a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing between sentences remains clear and tightly controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate to convey the basic message, but the range is limited and contains noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and form. You make several awkward lexical choices, such as 'contributed the significant increased', 'a lot fell and grew', and 'accounted considerable rose', which do not follow standard English patterns. There are also issues with word forms, such as 'stared' instead of 'started' and 'in betweem'. While these lexical inadequacies do not completely prevent the reader from understanding the general trends, they cause some difficulty and restrict the precision of your reporting. To improve, focus on learning correct word families (e.g., noun versus verb forms like 'rise' versus 'rose') and standard collocations for describing statistical data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Your writing displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple and attempted complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in verb tenses, prepositions, and articles throughout the text. Examples include mixing past and present tenses improperly ('is increased sharply', 'are started at', 'has stared'), omitting necessary articles, and awkward prepositional usage ('in 1970 of overweight rates'). While you attempt complex sentences to compare countries, these structures often contain grammatical slips that require the reader to slow down. To achieve higher bands, you need to demonstrate better control over tense consistency when describing past and future data points, and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors in your complex clauses.
