Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response is severely incomplete, as it breaks off abruptly after only 50 words, well short of the 150-word minimum requirement. Furthermore, 17 words were directly copied from the task prompt and do not count towards original production. While the introduction adequately paraphrases the prompt and the overview attempts to highlight general trends such as the USA experiencing the highest figures and Korea the lowest, the body paragraphs are entirely missing. Consequently, key features are not reported, comparisons are absent, and the task is only minimally addressed, reflecting a very low level of completion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
Due to the extreme brevity of the text, organizational structure and progression are difficult to evaluate fully. The response begins with a clear separation of an introductory sentence and an overview paragraph, which shows a basic awareness of report formatting. However, because the text stops mid-sentence in the third line, there is no body paragraph development, and cohesive devices are virtually non-existent beyond the initial introductory marker 'Overall'. The logical flow cannot be sustained, resulting in a fragmented and incomplete organizational structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used in the brief response is basic yet appropriate for the context, featuring standard terms such as 'overweight rates', 'selected countries', and 'tremendous increase'. There is an attempt at less common phrasing with 'in the same race', though this collocation is awkward and unnatural. Spelling and word choice in the visible portion are generally accurate, but the extremely limited volume of output means that a wider range of lexical resource cannot be demonstrated. Communication is not impeded by lexical errors, but the range remains restricted.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The student demonstrates control over simple sentence structures in the opening sentences, such as 'This graph shows past and current overweight rates...' and 'Overall, the USA has shown the tremendous increase...'. Verb tenses are used reasonably well for describing trends up to the present. However, the text breaks off prematurely, ending with an incomplete noun phrase ('Almost 50% population of the USA'). Because of this truncation, the range of grammatical structures is extremely limited, and complex forms are absent.
