Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify an overall contrast between higher rates in the USA and England and lower rates in Korea, and you include several country figures. However, the overview is incomplete and some central comparisons are inaccurate. The graph shows the USA at about 45% in 1972, not 55% in 1970, and England reaches about 69% by 2019, not 79%; Australia is about 64% in 2020, not 73%. The claim that France and Italy “plummeted” is also contrary to the graph: both rise overall, to roughly 44% and 46%. Several historical figures are assigned to the wrong years or countries. Select a few reliable start/end values and describe the broad upward trend, while distinguishing the highest and lowest rates.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs covering later and earlier figures. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “Overall” and “In terms of past” signal the intended sections. However, the progression is not consistently clear because the discussion jumps between countries and years, and the final paragraph’s date ranges do not clearly match the figures listed. Linking words such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” connect sentences, but they do not always clarify how the comparisons relate. Group countries by meaningful patterns—for example, the highest, middle, and lowest rates—and keep each comparison within a clear time period. This would make the information easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “rates,” “rose sharply,” and “moderate increase,” and the reader can generally understand that you are describing a line graph. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “Contributed a large proportion” and “contribution also spikes” do not naturally describe rates, while “plummeted” incorrectly suggests a fall. There are also spelling and form errors, including “OCED,” “contributer,” and “constitued,” as well as inconsistent capitalisation of “France.” Use precise trend language and refer to countries’ rates rather than their “contributions.” A broader, more accurate set of verbs for increases, stability, and small fluctuations would improve clarity and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, grammatical errors occur frequently, particularly with agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “Korea and france shares” should use a plural verb, while “The USA obesity rates” needs a possessive or a different structure. Phrases such as “USA was the highest contributer stood at 55%” combine clauses without the necessary grammatical link, and “The Austria, Spain, and Canada have” uses an unnecessary article. Tense and phrasing are also inconsistent across the report. Practise building clear comparison sentences with a subject, accurate verb, and figure—for example, “The rate in the USA rose to approximately 74% by 2020.”
