Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad pattern that the USA rose to the highest rate and Korea remained lowest, and you attempt comparisons across several countries. However, the response only partially summarises the graph: the overview is brief, and several key details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, England did not begin with the highest share across all countries; the USA was already around 45% in 1972, while England’s series begins later at about 47%. Canada and Spain also did not both begin at the figures stated, and Austria did not finish at 45%: it was about 46–47%, whereas Australia reached roughly 64%. Develop a clearer overview and select a few accurate comparisons, including the countries’ relative positions at the end.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to groups of country comparisons. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within the body is difficult to follow because comparisons are compressed together, and linking is sometimes inaccurate or mechanical. For instance, “While korea gradually grew, Despite of this remained lowest” does not form a clear relationship, and “over the time, dual nations showed fluctuated remained similiar” is hard to interpret. The final sentence is also incomplete, leaving the discussion of Korea unfinished. Use one clear focus per paragraph, connect comparisons with precise transitions, and ensure each sentence is complete and logically linked to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “increased,” “rose,” “fluctuations,” and “upward and downward trend.” This shows an attempt to use language suited to a line graph. However, the range is limited and several word choices, forms, and spellings make the meaning unclear, such as “passed and now high weight rates,” “a predication,” “showed up and downward trend,” and “expressed vary.” There are also repeated imprecise phrases such as “share” and “proportion overweight.” Aim for accurate collocations and consistent terminology, for example, “overweight rates,” “is projected to rise,” and “fluctuated slightly.” Check spelling carefully, particularly for key terms used in the introduction and overview.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer structures, including “While Korea gradually grew…” and sentences that compare two countries, but complex constructions are often faulty and the range remains limited. Errors in sentence boundaries, verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation occur frequently enough to make parts difficult to understand. For example, “Despite of this remained lowest” lacks a clear subject and uses an incorrect construction, while “Australia smoothly go up” has an incorrect verb form. “The USA in 1980 was nearly 43% proportion overweight” also has an unclear grammatical structure. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with clauses such as “while” or “whereas.” Use consistent past tense for historical data and check capitalisation and punctuation.
