Summarise the infonnation by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Past and projected future overweight rates in selected OECD countries
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The graph illustrates the past and projected future overweight rates in some selected OECD countries. On the whole, USA has the most overweight rates from 1970s to 2020s scalling around 45% to more than 70%. The lowest overweight data analysis was seen in Korea where their scale typically ranges around 30% to 40% from 2000 to 2020.
It is clear that Australia's graph has increased significantly from the year 1990 to 2000 as it climbed from 30% to 50% approximately and surpassed countries like Austra, Spain and Canada.
Compared with USA, England is the second highest graph rate for overweight analysis. Starting frm 1990 around 50%, it will rose gradually around 70% in 2020.
France and Italy are significantly lower rates, maintaining around 30% to 40% but in the year 2010, Italy's graph surpassed higher in camprison to France. Spain and Canada also has relatively medium percentage around 40% to 55%

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant broad patterns: the USA is highest, Korea is lowest, and rates generally rise, with Australia increasing notably. However, the overview is incomplete and some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. Korea is around 25% in 1998 and rises to about 35% by 2019, rather than typically ranging from 30% to 40% throughout 2000–2020. Australia reaches about 46% in 2000, not 50%, and the claim that it had surpassed Austria, Spain and Canada at that point is not supported. England’s final rate is about 69%, while the USA reaches roughly 74%. To strengthen the response, give a clearer overview of the overall upward trend and the contrast between the highest and lowest countries, then select accurate comparisons across the series.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has some organisation: it begins with an overview and then discusses Australia, England, and groups of European countries. Basic linking phrases such as “On the whole,” “It is clear,” and “Compared with USA” help signal relationships. However, the progression is not consistently clear, and the paragraphing does not separate the overview from the detailed comparisons. Some statements are difficult to follow, particularly “Italy's graph surpassed higher in camprison to France,” while the final sentence introduces Spain and Canada without explaining how their trends compare. Group countries by meaningful patterns, use one paragraph for the overview and another for selected details, and make comparisons explicit rather than listing rates loosely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “increased significantly,” “surpassed,” “gradually,” and “percentage,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “most overweight rates,” “lowest overweight data analysis,” and “graph rate for overweight analysis.” These phrases make the description less precise because the graph shows proportions or rates, not an “analysis” or a “graph rate.” There are also spelling errors, including “scalling,” “frm,” “Austra,” and “camprison.” Use standard trend language and check spelling: for example, describe a rate as “the highest,” say it “rose from” one figure “to” another, and refer to “the proportion of people who were overweight.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You communicate the general topic, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and the response relies mainly on simple sentence patterns. Several errors occur in verb forms and agreement: “it will rose” should be “it rose” or “it is projected to rise,” and “Spain and Canada also has” should be “Spain and Canada also have.” Other examples include “Starting frm 1990 around 50%,” which lacks a complete grammatical structure, and “Compared with USA,” which needs an article before the country name. Some sentences combine ideas without clear grammatical links, making comparisons harder to understand. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and use controlled complex structures, such as “While the US rate rose, Korea remained the lowest,” checking agreement and articles in each sentence.
