Past and projected future overweight rates in selected OECD countries

Student answer (Band 5.0)

we will summarise the key insights of projected overweight rates in past and future illustrated by the given line chart from the year of 1970 to 2020,we will analyze 9 countries trends with weighteh from 20 % to 80%

The highest overweighted projected rate is of usa in 2020 , as we move forward it follows an upward trend. The lowest projected overweighted future rate is of korea which also increases slightlyfrom around 25% to 30 % in year from 2000 to 2020

from the above given figure we can see that each country follows and upward trend some faces slight upward shift where as some faces significant upward change.Spain and Austria lies in the section of average upward shift in projected overweight rate.If we compare usa and korea in pojected overwieght rate we can see huge difference in there rates korea rate are increased upto 35 % on the other hand usa rates are increased to 75% that is huge increase

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify two relevant overall features: the USA has the highest rate and Korea the lowest, and both rise over time. However, the summary is only partial and the main trends are under-developed. The chart shows the USA reaching about 74% by 2020, while Korea rises to around 35%; your figures are broadly accurate, though the USA’s final rate is slightly overstated as 75%. The claim that every country follows an upward trend is generally supported, but you do not report useful comparisons across the other countries or identify the substantial rises in Australia and England. Develop the overview with the overall range and compare several countries at key points, rather than focusing mainly on the USA and Korea.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: you begin with an introduction, then discuss the highest and lowest rates, and finish with a broader comparison. This gives the reader a basic route through the response. However, the progression is not consistently clear, and several ideas are repeated, particularly the upward-trend point and the USA–Korea comparison. Linking phrases such as “from the above given figure” and “on the other hand” are used, but they do not always connect precise comparisons. The response would be clearer if divided into a concise introduction and overview, followed by grouped comparisons—for example, the highest-rate countries and the lower-rate countries. Use references such as “these two countries” only when the comparison is unmistakable.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “upward trend,” “projected rate,” “significant,” and “difference,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or awkward, such as “overweighted rate,” “average upward shift,” and “faces slight upward shift.” Spelling errors—including “weighteh,” “pojected,” and “overwieght”—also make the writing less clear and reduce control of vocabulary. Aim for standard chart language and accurate forms, such as “proportion of people who were overweight,” “moderate increase,” and “experienced a rise.” Check spelling carefully, especially for repeated key terms, and avoid using “projected” when describing past or current data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer structures, including “If we compare USA and Korea…” and “as we move forward…,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns, and the more complex attempts are often faulty. For example, “Spain and Austria lies” has subject–verb disagreement, while “korea rate are increased” has problems with agreement and verb form. Missing or incorrect articles and punctuation also affect clarity, as in “The highest overweighted projected rate is of usa in 2020.” Several sentences run together without appropriate full stops or commas. Practise building accurate comparisons with patterns such as “The rate in the USA rose from… to…, whereas Korea’s figure increased from… to…”. Use consistent past tense for historical data and future forms only for projections.
