Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify the chart’s subject and make a broad observation that overweight rates rise in most countries, which is relevant. However, the response is far too brief to summarise the graph: it gives no country-specific figures, comparisons, or clear account of the main patterns, such as the USA reaching the highest projected rate or Korea remaining lowest. The claim that some countries “controlled” the problem is not supported by a sustained decline in the data. The required minimum of 150 words is not met; the response contains 44 words, with eight words copied from the prompt excluded. To improve, provide a clear overview and select several key trends and comparisons, supported by approximate figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has a basic sequence: it first introduces the illustration and then attempts an overall summary. This gives the reader a simple starting point, but the ideas are not developed into a coherent report, and there is no paragraphing or progression from overview to selected details. The phrase “Overall The” also lacks appropriate punctuation, while “there maybe are few countries” makes the relationship between the ideas difficult to follow. Organise the response into an introduction, an overview, and one or two paragraphs comparing country trends. Use clear links such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” to show how the figures relate, rather than leaving the reader to infer the connections.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use a few relevant terms, including “overweight rates,” “countries,” and “increasing,” so the topic is identifiable. However, the vocabulary range is very limited, and some choices are imprecise or unnatural: “worked on their overweight problem” is conversational and does not clearly describe a trend in a graph, while “after onwards” is not an appropriate time expression. “The overweight” is also an awkward way to refer to rates. Use precise chart language such as “the proportion of people who were overweight,” “rose,” “declined,” and “remained stable.” A wider range of trend verbs and comparison phrases would help you report the data accurately and avoid repeating the same general idea.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response communicates its general topic using simple sentence forms, but it shows limited grammatical range and control. In “Overall The overweight are increased,” the article and capitalisation are incorrect, and the passive-like verb construction does not express the intended trend accurately. “There maybe are few countries” has faulty word order and omits the article needed before “few countries.” The final clause, “but after onwards they are slightly increasing,” is also structurally unclear. Practise forming accurate trend statements in the past and future, for example, “Rates increased in most countries, although a few remained stable for a time.” Add a range of correctly formed sentences to explain comparisons and changes over time.
