Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the countries at the extremes, noting that the USA is highest and Korea lowest, and you attempt to compare changes over time. However, the response reports several key features inaccurately: the USA rises to about 74%, not 90%, and it does not remain highest throughout the whole period shown, since most countries have no recorded figures in the early years. The claim that Canada, Spain and Australia had the same rate in 2000 is also unsupported; their rates were approximately 50%, 48% and 46%, respectively. The overview is unclear and does not summarise the broad pattern that rates generally increased. To improve, select a few accurate comparisons and describe the overall trend clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to organise the response around overall comparisons and then individual trends, and phrases such as “In Korea” and “So” signal connections between ideas. However, the information is not arranged in a clear progression: the opening moves from rankings to claims about 1970 and 2000, then shifts to Korea, the USA and Austria without a consistent structure. Several sentences are joined awkwardly, and the final sentence repeats the idea of comparison rather than concluding with a useful summary. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and selected details, and group countries by their rates or trends. Clearer links such as “By contrast” and “Meanwhile” would help readers follow the comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “rate,” “increasing,” “position” and “comparison,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “same of overweight,” “balance rate” and “has the potential of shows.” Repetition of “overweight” and “rate” also makes the description less precise. Choose standard expressions for describing data, such as “proportion of people who were overweight,” “remained stable” and “rose by approximately.” Check word forms and spelling, including “graph” rather than “Graph” when used mid-sentence, and use country names consistently with appropriate capitalisation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. Examples include “The Graph illustrate,” “USA on First position,” and “its increasing only approx 10%,” which show problems with agreement, sentence structure and verb forms. Tense and preposition patterns are also unreliable in phrases such as “between from 2010 to 2020” and “started rate of overweight.” Most sentences rely on basic structures, and punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent. Build accurate short sentences first—for example, “The US rate rose from about 45% to 74%”—then combine them using correctly formed clauses.
