Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad pattern that rates generally rise, and your overview correctly places the USA highest and Korea lowest. You also include several relevant country comparisons. However, the overview is not fully accurate: the USA is not highest throughout the period, since England is slightly higher in some later years, and the chart gives projected figures only to 2020. Several details are also misreported or too vague: Australia begins around 1990, not 1988; Spain begins around 1987, not 1985; and Austria does not show the stated early decline. The final figures for Italy and France are also overstated. Select the clearest overall comparisons and check start dates, fluctuations and endpoints against the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two body paragraphs grouping countries. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression within the body paragraphs is uneven: the second paragraph moves from the USA to England and Canada, while the final paragraph lists several countries in quick succession. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand,” “Moreover,” and “In contrast” are used, but some do not express a clear contrast or relationship. The unfinished phrases “followed by” also interrupt the flow. Organise the details into clearer groups, use transitions only where the relationship is accurate, and ensure each sentence is complete.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “gradually,” “decline,” “peaked,” and “fluctuation,” and you attempt to describe both trends and comparisons. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For example, “rates of obesity” and “overweight rates” are mixed, while “experienced for lowest figures” and “started getting obesity” are unnatural expressions. There are also spelling errors such as “Farance,” and forms such as “Korean” are used where the country name is needed. Aim for precise, consistent terms and learn common trend collocations; the suggestions below offer practical alternatives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt longer sentences and use past-tense verbs to describe changes, but control is inconsistent. Several complex sentences are difficult to follow because clauses are joined without clear punctuation, as in “the USA was only country … approximately 46% people … and rose for the rest of the time period.” Articles and agreement are also frequently missing or incorrect: “the USA was only country,” “the England begin,” and “Korean had experienced.” Tense shifts occur within descriptions, and commas are often separated from the preceding word or used where a full stop is needed. Practise building shorter, complete sentences first, then combine them with accurate conjunctions. Check articles, subject–verb agreement and past-tense forms during editing.
