Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the chart’s subject and attempts to highlight the USA and Korea, so it is at least connected to the task. However, it does not summarise the main features: there is no clear overview of the general upward pattern across countries, no meaningful comparisons, and almost no supporting data. The claim that Korea’s trend is “down ward” is inaccurate; its rate generally rises from about 25% to 35%, with only a small dip around 2008. The USA is indeed among the highest and is projected to reach roughly 74%, but this is not explained. The response is also 91 words below the required minimum, leaving the task only minimally addressed. Select key trends and comparisons, then support them with approximate figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the first sentence introduces the graph, and the second begins to describe country trends. The contrast marker “While” also signals an intended comparison. However, the ideas do not develop into a coherent summary, and the second sentence is fragmented by the full stop after “countries” and the capitalised “where.” The relationship between the USA and Korea is not clearly explained, while “previous countries” has no clear reference. Use a short introduction, a separate overview, and one or two paragraphs grouping countries by their rates or trends. Connect each comparison explicitly so the reader can follow the progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a few relevant terms, including “rates,” “trend,” “increase,” and “projected future,” showing some awareness of the chart’s subject. However, the vocabulary is very limited and several choices or spellings are inaccurate: “over weight” should be written as “overweight,” and “down ward” as “downward.” “Previous countries” does not express a clear comparison, and “various trends of different countries” is vague and repetitive. These choices make the description imprecise, particularly when reporting the countries’ movements. Build a small set of accurate graph terms, such as “proportion,” “rise,” “decline,” “remain stable,” and “reach,” and use them with specific country names and figures.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts simple statements and a contrast, but grammatical control is uneven. “This line graphs demonstrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “This line graphs displays” repeats the same problem. The second sentence also contains a sentence-boundary error: “countries . where” should be joined or rewritten, and “While, the Korea trend…” is not a complete, correctly punctuated clause. The article in “the Korea” is unnecessary, and “there is a small increase later” lacks a clear grammatical reference to what increases. Most of the writing relies on basic structures, so the response does not yet show a reliable range. Practise accurate singular subjects and complete sentences before adding more complex comparisons.
