Past and projected future overweight rates in selected OECD countries
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The line graph demonstrates the past and current overweight rates, as well as a projected future overweight rate in nine selected countries.
Overall, the graph illustrates the major concern because almost in every country the rates has been increased significantly.
The countries where the rates increases consistently are Australia, USA, Korea and England. In 1970's the rate of overweight is less then 50% but then it consistently increases to more than 75% in 2020, similary in England the rates was also increase dramaticaly as in 90's the rate was about 47% and then climbs to about 70% in 2020.Moreover Australia also has the similar pattern, the rates has been increases from 32% in the mid 80's to 64% in 2020 wheras in korea the result was not contrast to above four mentioned countries beggining from 15% from mid 90's to more then 35% in 2020.
Related to the first paragraph, the other countries has similar number as well even though some countries like Austria the rate was starts from 38% and remains consistent however in the mid of 00's the rates climb significantly but then dropdown as well so does France has also contrast rates as starting from 31% in the 90's to move in a to and fourth motion and then increases to 45% in 2020. Spain and Canada are the countries that have the similar pattern as canada records 50% in the 90's and then increase in a gentle pace to move at 55% in 2020 and spain begins from 43% in the mid 80's and then gradually increase to 54%. At last Italy recorded less then 40% in the mid 90's and then jumps to 44% in 2020.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad upward trend and include an overview, noting that rates rise in almost all countries. You also make relevant comparisons and cover all nine countries. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear: the USA is described as exceeding 75% in 2020, whereas the graph shows about 74%; Australia is said to begin in the mid-1980s at 32%, although its series starts around 1990 at 34%; and Korea begins around 25% in 1998, not 15% in the mid-1990s. Some trends are also oversimplified: Austria does not simply remain consistent, and Spain ends at about 55%, rather than 54%. A more precise overview and carefully checked figures would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure: an introduction and overview are followed by two paragraphs grouping countries, and phrases such as “Overall” and “Moreover” signal relationships. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow because several countries and trends are packed into long sentences. The opening of the final paragraph, “Related to the first paragraph,” does not clearly explain the relationship between the groups, while “so does France” and “At last” make connections awkward. Some comparisons are also hard to interpret, such as calling Korea’s result “not contrast” to the other countries. Organise the data into clearer groups, use one main comparison per sentence, and make references between ideas explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “rates,” “consistently increases,” “gradually increase,” and “remains consistent,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the trends difficult to interpret. For example, “the major concern” is not a neutral description of a graph, “the result was not contrast” is unclear, and “to and fourth motion” does not express fluctuation naturally. Spelling errors such as “similary,” “dramaticaly,” and “beggining” also reduce accuracy. Practise precise trend language—such as “fluctuated,” “rose steadily,” and “reached”—and check spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including comparisons with “whereas” and clauses introduced by “even though.” However, errors are frequent, and some long sentences are difficult to process. Subject–verb agreement is often incorrect: “the rates has been increased” and “the other countries has.” Verb forms and tense are also faulty in phrases such as “the rate was starts” and “the rates was also increase.” Articles, plurals, and punctuation need attention as well; for example, “in 1970’s” and “in 90’s” lack appropriate article use, and several sentences run together without clear punctuation. Build accuracy with shorter sentences first, then combine ideas using correctly formed clauses and consistent past or projected-future tense.
