Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 2.5

The response attempts to identify countries and rates, but it does not accurately summarise the graph’s main features. Several figures and dates are misreported: the USA is projected at about 74% in 2020, not 50%; Austria is around 47%, not 40%; and England’s 1980 rate is not shown, as its data begin in the 1990s. The overview, “noticeable differences,” is too general, and the response gives no reliable account of the overall upward trends or the contrast between the highest and lowest rates. It also describes the visual as a bar chart rather than a line graph. The response is 147 words, three words below the required minimum. Select accurate key trends and comparisons, then support them with relevant figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic sequence: an introduction, a general overview, and a list of country figures. Phrases such as “Overall” and “The next country” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, the repeated “The next country” creates a mechanical list rather than a clear progression, and the comparisons jump between unrelated years and countries. The final sentence, “Its show the clear comparison,” does not add a meaningful conclusion. Grouping countries by high, middle and low rates, and using separate paragraphs for the overview and supporting details, would make the information easier to follow. Use linking expressions to show actual comparisons, not simply to introduce another item.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “overweight rates,” “percentages” and “comparison,” and “elucidates” shows an attempt to use a less common verb. However, word choice is often inaccurate or unnatural: “bar chart” misidentifies the visual, “in number or percentages” is unclear, and “the USA in 2020 is 50 percentage” is not a natural way to report a rate. There are also spelling errors such as “Thr” and “ciuntry,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise graph language and natural collocations, such as “the proportion of people who were overweight” and “rose to.” Check spelling and avoid using elaborate words when a simpler, accurate term is clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response mainly uses short, simple sentence patterns, with limited evidence of varied or complex structures. Some sentences communicate a basic point, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “Thr chart compares different years and present the data” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “Its show the clear comparison” has an incorrect subject form and verb form. Several country statements are fragments or lack a complete, natural grammatical structure, such as “The next country is Canada in 2000 that percentage is 50.” Punctuation is also missing after some figures, making the list harder to read. Practise complete sentences with accurate clauses, for example: “The USA’s rate is projected to reach about 74% by 2020.”
