Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the general subject and mention several countries, including the USA, Korea, Australia, France, Canada and Italy. However, the response only minimally summarises the graph: it gives no clear, accurate overview of the main pattern across all nine countries and omits important comparisons, such as the USA remaining highest and Korea lowest. Some reported details are inaccurate or unclear: Korea rises from about 25% to 35%, not 22% to 36%, and Italy begins at about 37%, not 30%. The opening also misstates the period as ending in 2030, whereas the projections shown reach 2020. Select a few key trends, report them accurately, and distinguish past data from projections.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and comparison paragraphs, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore” and “Whereas” show an effort to connect ideas. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview combines several unclear claims, and the later paragraphs group countries without explaining the basis for comparison. For example, the Australia–France comparison shifts from a vague description of early rates to their final figures, while the Canada–Italy paragraph contains a confusing account of their starting points. Use one clear overview followed by logically grouped comparisons, and make each sentence express one main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant graph vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “increase” and “fluctuate,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several word choices or forms make the meaning difficult to understand. Phrases such as “a project future,” “past projects future,” “preposition overweight” and “sowes similarly” are inaccurate or unclear; “between percentage 30 to 33” is also not a natural way to describe a range. Aim for precise, standard expressions such as “projected rate,” “the proportion rose from … to …” and “remained relatively stable.” Check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to form longer sentences and use comparison structures, including “Whereas, Canada and Italy…” and “Australia and France…,” but control is very limited. Frequent errors in sentence construction, tense, articles and punctuation often obscure the intended meaning. For instance, “The line graph illustrates current overweight rates,as well as a project future…” lacks correct spacing and has an incomplete, faulty structure; “Korea future overweight rates according to 1998 and 2020…” is not a grammatical sentence. Commas are also used inconsistently, and several clauses run together. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled forms such as “while” and “whereas.”
