Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main broad pattern: rates generally rise, the USA is highest, and Korea is lowest. You also include comparisons across several countries, which keeps the response relevant. However, some key details are inaccurate or too vague: the USA begins at about 45% in 1972, not 1973, and reaches roughly 74% by 2020; Austria ends near 46–47%, rather than 48%. The overview also says all rates increased gradually, although several series fluctuate or remain fairly stable for periods. Some countries, especially Spain, Italy and Korea, receive little specific reporting. To strengthen the response, give a clearer overview of the highest and lowest rates and select accurate, representative figures for each major trend.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to country-by-country details. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the overview combines general trends without distinguishing the countries, and the final paragraph moves rapidly between Spain, Austria, Italy, Australia, France and Korea. Linking words such as “while,” “same situation” and “at last” are sometimes awkward or do not clearly show the relationship between the data. Grouping countries with similar patterns—for example, the strongest rises versus lower-rate countries—and using clearer transitions would improve the organisation and reduce the list-like effect.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “percentages,” “projected,” “rise,” “fluctuation” and “steady,” so the general meaning is usually understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are unnatural, such as “overweighted country,” “losing some numbers,” and “shown most growth.” Spelling errors, including “Austia,” “countrys” and “thoughout,” also make the writing less controlled. Aim for precise, conventional language for describing charts, and check spelling and word forms. For example, use “proportion of people who were overweight,” “fell slightly,” and “recorded the largest increase” rather than the less natural phrases in the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response communicates its main points through mostly simple sentence patterns, with occasional attempts to combine ideas using “while” and “though.” However, grammatical errors are frequent, and some sentences are incomplete or difficult to follow. For example, “Spain also showing increase in number” lacks a finite verb, while “Australia shown most growth” has an incorrect verb form. There are also problems with articles, agreement and punctuation, as in “all countrys rates increased” and “Canada,Spain.” Use complete subject–verb sentences and maintain consistent past-tense reporting for historical data, reserving future forms for projections. More accurate sentence construction would make the comparisons easier to understand.
