Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies several countries and attempts to describe past and projected rates, but it does not provide a reliable summary of the graph’s main features. Several key figures and comparisons are inaccurate: for example, the USA starts at about 45%, not 50%, and Spain and Austria do not both begin at 50% in 1970. The claim that Austria and France remain near 70% is also far from the chart; their projected rates are about 47% and 44%. The overview that every country changes hugely is too general and overlooks the clear overall rise and the USA’s highest projected rate. The response is also 8 words below the 150-word minimum, with 17 prompt words excluded from the count. Select accurate key trends and support them with correct comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response using sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “On the other hand,” and the countries are grouped to some extent. However, the progression is difficult to follow because several comparisons are crowded into long, loosely connected sentences. For instance, the sentence beginning “As compared to coming future…” shifts from Spain and Austria to Austria and France without a clear relationship. The response also lacks distinct paragraphing and a clear overview separated from supporting details. Use a short introduction and overview, followed by logically grouped comparisons, and make each sentence focus on one trend or comparison. More precise linking and reference would make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “proportion overweight,” “rates,” and “increase,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “The line bar” does not accurately name the visual, while “a greatly change” and “rise with very few proportion” are not natural ways to describe trends. “Stand on” is repeatedly used where “stood at” or “was” is needed, and “coloumn” is misspelled. These choices sometimes make the intended comparison unclear. Build a small set of accurate trend expressions—such as “rose steadily,” “remained relatively stable,” and “was projected to reach”—and check spelling and collocation before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to combine ideas and use time references, but sentence structures are mostly simple or joined with punctuation rather than controlled clauses. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in examples such as “England stand” and “it will both rise,” while tense shifts occur in “had 50%” followed by “it will both rise.” Articles and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “USA rates stand on 50% proportion overweight in 1970,After…” Capitalisation and commas are frequently missing, which makes several sentences hard to read. Practise forming complete sentences with accurate past and future forms, and use full stops to separate comparisons. Greater control of these basic patterns is needed alongside more varied structures.
