Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad pattern that the USA had the highest rates and Korea the lowest, and you mention increases in several countries. However, the overview is incomplete: it does not clearly summarise the general upward trend across most countries or distinguish the countries’ relative levels at the end. Some comparisons are vague or inaccurate. For example, England was not below 50% throughout; it rose from about 47% to around 69%. Canada and Spain were not consistently “nearly same” from 2000 onward, as Canada ended near 55% and Spain near 55%, but their paths differed. The country groupings also omit useful endpoint comparisons. Select a few key figures and describe the main contrasts more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview and a body that groups countries together. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within the body is difficult to follow because several countries are combined without explaining the basis for comparison, as in “Canada and Spain” and “Austria and Italy.” Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furtheremore,” and “Moreover” are used, but they do not always clarify how the next point relates to the previous one. Some references, including “this proportion” and “these figures,” are unclear. Organise the details into clearer groups, such as the highest-rising countries and those with lower rates, and use explicit comparisons to connect the information.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “percentage,” “upward trend,” “variation,” and “fluctuation.” This shows an attempt to use task-specific language rather than relying only on basic words. However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes some descriptions unclear. For instance, “accounted for higher percentage” and “recorded this figures” are not natural ways to describe rates, while “sharp up trend” is awkward. There is also a spelling error in “Furtheremore.” Aim for precise terms such as “stood at,” “rose,” “remained stable,” and “increased sharply,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the overall meaning can usually be understood. However, grammatical errors are frequent, particularly in articles, agreement, tense and sentence construction. Examples include “The USA 45% recorded,” where the subject and verb order is faulty, and “it was decreased,” which uses an incorrect passive form. In “this proportion … constituted mild variation,” the article and sentence pattern are problematic, while “it shown closely same figures” lacks the correct verb form and article. Capitalisation after “Overall” and punctuation around “Moreover” also need attention. Practise accurate patterns such as “The rate stood at 45%,” “it decreased slightly,” and “the figures were similar.”
