Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad pattern that rates generally rise and correctly note that the USA is highest while Korea is among the lowest. However, the overview is only partly accurate: France is not consistently the lowest alongside Korea, and several countries are grouped as “mid range” without explaining their different trends. Some figures are misread: the USA falls from about 45% to 43% between 1972 and 1980, not from 48% to 45%; Korea begins at about 25% in 1998, rather than 22%; and France reaches roughly 44% by 2019, not 40%. The response also gives little coverage of countries such as England, Australia, Spain and Canada. Select the clearest comparisons and report their trends more accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overview and paragraphs describing higher- and lower-rate countries. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is grouped. However, progression is limited: the discussion moves from the USA to an unclear “mid range” comparison, then back to France and Korea, without a consistent organising principle. Linking phrases such as “Moreover” and “At the end” do not always show the relationship between the points that follow. References such as “the lowest nation” are also repeated without making the comparison precise. Group countries by similar trends or levels, and use clear transitions to guide the reader through those groups.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a graph, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “ratio,” “decrease” and “reaches.” This shows an attempt to vary the language rather than relying on one term throughout. However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. Examples include “the most high proportion country,” “same like,” and “rising up continuously”; these are not natural collocations for this task. There are also spelling errors such as “continuoulsy,” “groes” and “lowes.” Build a reliable set of graph-description phrases and check spelling, word forms and collocations before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including “In France, the ratio is about 30% in 1990…” and a sentence beginning “Moreover.” However, the range remains limited, and frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction sometimes make the message difficult to follow. For example, “The line graph display” needs subject–verb agreement, while “Overall, overweight rates … increasing” is missing a finite verb. “The highest overweight rates is” also has a plural–singular mismatch. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check tense consistency when describing past data and projections. More accurate basic structures will make your comparisons easier to understand.
