Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response identifies the broad pattern that the USA has the highest rate and Korea the lowest, and it gives approximate 2020 figures that are close to the graph. However, the overview repeats these points rather than summarising the main changes over time, and most of the report focuses narrowly on the final year. Some comparisons are also inaccurate: England is about 69% in 2019, but Spain is around 55%, not in the same 50–60% grouping as Canada at about 55%; Australia is about 64%, not about 45%. France is around 44%, while Austria and Italy are also omitted. To develop the response, report the general upward trend and compare several countries’ starting points or changes, using figures that match the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and further comparisons. The reader can follow the central idea that the USA is highest and Korea lowest. However, progression is limited because the overview repeats the same ranking later, and the body moves through countries without a clear grouping or comparison principle. The repeated pattern “The country…” also makes the report feel list-like, while missing spaces after full stops in “70%.The” and “45%.The” interrupt the presentation. Organise the details into meaningful groups—for example, the highest rates, middle-range countries, and lowest rates—and use clear links to show how their trends compare.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses enough basic vocabulary to communicate the main subject, including “rates,” “estimated,” “nations,” and “figures.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are unnatural or imprecise, such as “numbers of overweight individuals,” “in largest amount,” “most lowest,” and “bigger than other nations.” These choices sometimes make the intended comparison less clear, and “overweight” is repeatedly used where the graph measures a proportion or rate. Use more precise chart language, such as “the proportion of people who were overweight,” “highest rate,” and “exceeded.” Avoid repeating the same wording by varying terms such as “percentage,” “figure,” and “level” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates its main points through mostly simple sentence patterns, and some sentences are understandable, such as “The USA has about 75% overweight in 2020.” However, grammatical control is uneven. In “the country which has most lowest number … is Korea 2020,” the superlative construction and sentence structure are faulty; “the second country which has the lower number … is England” also uses an awkward comparative form. There are agreement problems in “Spain and Canada which has,” and the final sentence lacks a clear grammatical link between the subject and its figure. Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent. Practise accurate comparative and superlative clauses, subject–verb agreement, and complete sentences, while adding some controlled complex structures.
