Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad pattern that rates generally rise and correctly note that the USA is highest and Korea lowest among the countries shown. Several figures are also close to the chart, including the USA’s starting point and Canada’s final rate. However, the overview is incomplete: it does not compare the countries’ overall trajectories or highlight that Australia also rises substantially. Some details are inaccurate or unsupported: Korea begins at about 25%, not 15%, and Australia reaches about 64% in 2020, not 55%. England and Spain are mentioned only as starting late, with no useful trend or endpoint comparison. Select the most important contrasts and report them accurately to make the summary more complete and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs. The sequence from the general pattern to individual countries is understandable, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In contrast” and “While” help signal relationships. However, progression is limited because the details are presented as a list rather than grouped into meaningful comparisons. England and Spain are introduced but not followed through, and the final paragraph moves between Australia, Canada and Korea without a clear organising principle. Some transitions are also awkwardly attached, as in “year 2020.While France”. Group countries by similar rates or trends, and use clearer sentence boundaries and references to make the information easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant graph vocabulary, including “overweight rates,” “decrease,” “upward trend” and “reach,” so the main subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less precise. Examples include “counties” for countries, “propotion” for proportion, “beging” for begin, and “face an upword trend,” which is not a natural collocation. Repetition of “start,” “reach” and “number of overweight” also reduces flexibility. Use standard trend language and check spelling and collocations carefully; for example, describe a rate as rising or increasing rather than saying the number of overweight increases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Most sentences use simple structures, and the reader can usually understand the intended comparisons. There are attempts to combine ideas, such as “While France, Australia, England and Spain begin…”, but the clause is left incomplete. Frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction affect accuracy: “all countries overweight proportion is rised” and “The number of overweight is increase” are examples. Other patterns need articles or clearer word order, as in “USA start with 45 percent” and “reach to 75 percent proportion.” Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after full stops. Practise accurate past and present forms, subject–verb agreement, and complete sentences before adding more complex clauses.
