Student answer (Band 4.5)

According to this graph about 45% of people proportion of USA were having overweight issues in years 1970 onwards and it continuously increased after the year 1978 and upto 2020 it was continuously increasing and it increased upto approximately 80% in year 2020.

If we see the graph line of Austria it doesnot increases so much from 1970 to 2020, It was about 38% in 1970, which means that Austria was not having any overweight issues from 1980's to 1190's but after 1990 it gradually increased but it was not that much as compared to USA.and after 2020 it was only approximately 47%.

Korea on the other hand is having a very less proportion because its calculation started from 1998 and it increased a little bit upto 2020 ,according to figure in 1998 over weight proportion was upto 25% and in 2020 it was only 35% which means it increased upto 10%.Italy also increased the proportion upto only 7% from year 1995 to 2020.

England on the otherhand increased the proportion too much same as USA ,it was 48% in 1990 and in 2020 it was 69% ,it was a great increase in proportion.

spain also gradually increased but not too much .and france's proportion didnot changed

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify several countries and report some broad trends, including Korea’s rise from about 25% to 35% and the general increase in the USA. However, the response addresses the graph only partially: there is no clear overview of the main pattern across all nine countries, and several details are inaccurate. The USA is projected to reach about 74%, not 80%; Austria begins in the 1980s rather than 1970, and its rate is around 46–47% by 2019. England reaches about 69%, while France rises rather than remaining unchanged. Some countries, including Canada, Australia and Spain, receive little or no meaningful comparison. Select the most important overall features and support them with accurate comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has some organisation: it moves through individual countries and uses basic linking phrases such as “on the other hand” and “also.” This gives the reader a rough sense of the topics being discussed. However, the country-by-country sequence does not establish a clear overall progression or group related trends, and there is no distinct overview to guide the reader. Connections between ideas are sometimes awkward, as in “If we see the graph line of Austria,” while the final comments on Spain and France are abrupt and undeveloped. Use a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that compare countries with similar or contrasting rates. More precise referencing and fewer repetitive transitions would make the account easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the general subject, with relevant terms such as “proportion,” “increased,” “gradually,” and “approximately.” There are also attempts to describe degree, for example “a great increase.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, including “people proportion,” “having overweight issues,” and “increased the proportion too much.” Repetition of “increased” and “proportion” also makes the description less flexible. Choose standard graph language and vary verbs for movement, such as “rose,” “climbed,” or “remained stable.” Check spelling and word forms too, including “doesnot,” “otherhand,” and “over weight,” which reduce the accuracy and polish of the vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to combine ideas using clauses and time expressions, as in “which means that Austria…” and “which means it increased…,” so the response is not limited entirely to isolated simple sentences. However, sentence structures are often faulty, and errors recur in agreement, tense, articles, and punctuation. For example, “it continuously increased” does not fit naturally with the stated past-to-future timeline, and “Austria was not having any overweight issues” is an awkward construction for describing a rate. The opening phrase “45% of people proportion of USA” is also difficult to parse. Several long sentences run together, particularly the Austria sentence. Practise concise comparative sentences, maintain consistent past and projected-future forms, and use full stops to separate complete ideas.
