Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad upward trend and note that the USA is highest while Korea remains lowest, which are relevant main features. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear: Australia did not begin in 1980 at 39% (its series starts around 1990 at 34%), and its 2020 figure is about 64%, not 45%. The statement that the USA was the first country to record overweight rates is also unsupported, since the graph shows different starting years for different countries. Some comparisons, such as England and Spain being around 48% and 42%, lack a clear year. To strengthen the response, give a precise overview of the overall rise and the highest and lowest projected rates, then select accurate comparisons across the countries.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has an introduction, an overview, and further paragraphs that group several countries, so there is some organisation. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the comparisons shift abruptly: Australia is introduced as the second country, then England, Spain, France, and Australia are discussed together, before the final paragraph moves among Italy, Korea, and Canada. Linking phrases such as “Furthermore” and “At last” do not always clarify how the information relates, and “whereas” is used in a way that leaves comparisons unclear. Organise the data into clearer groups, for example the highest-rising countries and those with lower rates, and use explicit time references to connect each comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “gradually went up,” “increasing,” “percentage,” and “maintained,” and the reader can generally identify the trends you intend to describe. However, the range is limited and several expressions are unnatural or imprecise, such as “to be on overweight rates,” “being overweight,” and “had a good increase.” “Skow progress” also contains a spelling error, while “drastic change” overstates Italy’s rise. Use standard graph language and precise trend verbs, such as “the proportion rose,” “increased steadily,” or “remained stable.” Take care to distinguish a rate from the people themselves: describe the percentage of the population who were overweight, rather than saying a country was overweight.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt longer sentences and use time clauses and contrast, but complex structures are often faulty, and errors recur in basic sentence patterns. Examples include “United States was the fist one,” “England and Spain was,” and “Australia was the second country being overweight”; these show problems with articles, agreement, and sentence construction. The phrase “in the year on 1970” also has an incorrect preposition pattern, and “kept increasing with with time” contains repetition. Some sentences combine several comparisons without clear grammatical links, making the meaning harder to follow. Practise accurate simple trend sentences first, then add clauses with controlled connectors such as “while” and “whereas,” checking articles, verb agreement, and tense.
