Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad pattern that the USA is highest and Korea lowest, and you mention several countries and the overall period. However, the report only partially selects and describes the graph’s main features. Some figures are inaccurate: the USA rises from about 45% in 1972 to 74% in 2020, not from 50% to 70%, and England ends at about 69%, rather than 70%. The claim that Spain and Canada share almost the same percentage is not well supported: they finish at roughly 55% each, but their earlier paths differ. The grouping of Austria, Italy and France as having almost the same 2020 rate is also misleading, as they end at about 46%, 46%, and 44%. Include a clearer overview and more accurate comparisons across the countries.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable sequence: it begins with the USA, moves through other countries, and ends with a concluding statement. Connectors such as “followed by,” “furthermore,” and “Lastly” help signal this order. However, the progression is not consistently clear because the country groupings are asserted without explaining the basis for comparison, and several lines read as separate fragments rather than a connected report. The opening sentence is a title-like introduction rather than a clear overview, while the conclusion repeats the ranking instead of bringing the main trends together. Organise the response into a brief introduction, an overview of the highest and lowest trends, and paragraphs comparing the remaining countries. Use linking phrases to show meaningful contrasts, not just sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary relevant to describing a graph, including “proportion,” “increased,” “significant,” and “maintained.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or misspelled choices make parts difficult to understand. Examples include “interpritation,” “graphycal presentation,” “sheares,” “hapence,” and “mormal.” Some phrases are also unnatural for this task: “the list of overweight in proportion” and “more like insignificantly” do not clearly express the intended ranking or trend. Aim for precise, conventional language for data reporting, such as “the proportion of people who were overweight,” “rose steadily,” and “recorded the lowest rate.” Check spelling and collocations carefully so that your comparisons are immediately clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response mainly uses simple sentence patterns, with some attempts to link clauses using “which,” “while,” and “though.” Frequent errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “The proportion … have increased” has subject–verb disagreement, and “by the year 1970 to 2020” uses an incorrect time construction. Several statements lack a complete or well-formed clause, including “followed by the England” and “Austria, Italy and France … sheares almost the same proportion.” Articles, prepositions, and punctuation are also inconsistent. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use past-to-future time expressions accurately, for example, “The rate in the USA rose from about 45% in 1972 and is projected to reach 74% by 2020.”
