Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the broad pattern that rates generally increased and note that the USA was highest while Korea was lowest, which gives the response a relevant overview. However, the overview is not fully accurate across the whole period: the USA is highest in the later years, but the graph does not establish that it led throughout. The claim that the USA, England and Australia each rose by almost 25% is also unsupported; their increases differ, and England’s series begins much later. Most other countries are only grouped together, with no useful comparisons or selected figures to substantiate the summary. The response is 131 words, below the required 150. Add a clearer overview and accurate comparisons between countries and dates.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic, recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing trends. This helps the reader identify the main topic, and transitions such as “Overall” and “whereas” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression is limited: the final paragraph repeats the point that Korea is lowest, while the country groupings are not developed into a clear comparison. Linking is also sometimes awkward, as in “Mainly 3 nations USA, England and Australia,” and the list “France, Italy, Austria Canada, Spain” is difficult to follow. Organise the body by meaningful groups, such as the highest-rising countries and those with lower rates, and use clearer sentence links and punctuation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “overweight rates,” “percentage,” “rise,” and “nations,” so the general subject is understandable. There is some variation in how you describe change, but the range remains limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “most percentage of overweight” and “least number of overweights” are not natural ways to describe proportions, while “significant rise” is repeated without precise alternatives. Spelling errors such as “throught” and “amoung” also reduce accuracy. Aim for standard chart language such as “proportion,” “rate,” “increased,” and “remained the lowest,” and check spelling and collocations when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and more developed sentences, including the contrast in “the USA had the most percentage … whereas Korea has the least.” However, grammatical errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to process. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “Every nations has” and “USA, England and Australia has seens”; articles and plural forms are also problematic. Tense shifts between “had,” “has,” and “did see” are not controlled consistently when describing the graph. The sentence beginning “Mainly 3 nations” lacks clear punctuation and structure. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, consistent past-tense reporting, and complete sentences before adding more complex forms.
