Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the chart’s general subject and make a relevant comparison by noting that the USA is highest and Korea lowest. However, the overview is unclear, and the report covers only a few countries, leaving out important trends for Spain, Austria, Italy and France. Some details are inaccurate: the USA reaches 61% in 2000, not 1997, and Canada is around 48% in 2001 rather than 44% in 2000. The claim that Korea starts at 22% is also below the chart’s approximate starting value of 25%. The response is 146 words, so it does not meet the 150-word minimum; the 10 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Select the main overall patterns and report accurate, relevant comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening, an overview, and separate discussion of several countries. This gives the reader some sense of the topic. However, ideas are not arranged coherently enough: the overview sentence, “USA is highest selected to the project past and future overweight,” is difficult to interpret, and the country descriptions often jump between dates and trends without a clear sequence. Linking phrases such as “After that” are repeated, while references such as “this rate” and “this project rate” are unclear. Grouping countries by high, middle and low rates, then describing their changes in chronological order, would create a clearer progression and make comparisons easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “rate,” “fluctuated,” “declined” and “increased,” and it attempts to describe change over time. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to understand. For example, “highest selected to the project” and “least proportional to the Korea” do not express the intended comparison naturally. There are also spelling errors such as “begging,” “rosen,” “incresed” and “propotion.” Use precise terms for trends and comparisons, and check spelling carefully. A wider, more accurate set of expressions would help you describe the chart without repeating “rate” so often.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to form sentences about changes over time, including a sequence with “after that,” but grammatical control is weak and sentence structures are mostly simple or incomplete. Errors in verb forms and sentence construction occur frequently: “USA was the declined rate” and “England was started to the projected” do not form clear grammatical statements. Tense and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “this rate was fluctuated” and “the rate was increased.” Capitalisation and punctuation are unreliable, particularly the lowercase “this” after a full stop and the extra spaces in several places. Practise clear past-tense sentences such as “The rate declined before rising,” and use a consistent structure for each country.
