Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the graph’s subject and report several end-point comparisons, including the USA as highest and Korea as lowest, with figures broadly consistent with the chart. However, the response gives only a narrow snapshot of 2020 and does not summarise the main overall pattern: rates generally rise over time. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: England is about 69%, while Australia is about 64%, rather than both simply being between 60 and 70; Austria is about 46.5%, not 45%. The phrase “past and projected future” also misrepresents the figures as a single period. The response is 104 words, below the required 150, and this limits the coverage and development of the summary. Include an overview and key changes across the years.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic sequence, moving from the USA to other country groups and ending with Korea. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Moreover,” and “At the end” show an attempt to connect points, and the reader can generally follow the comparisons. However, the progression is not clearly organised into an overview followed by supporting details, and the connectors sometimes feel mechanical rather than expressing precise relationships. The short statements also leave the information as a list of observations, with little comparison of trends or grouping by similar patterns. Use a clear opening overview, then organise the main details into logical groups—for example, the highest-rising countries and those with lower rates—and use linking phrases that accurately signal contrast or similarity.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a small set of relevant terms, including “proportion,” “overweight rates,” and “approximately,” so the topic is usually understandable. However, the vocabulary is limited and several choices are unnatural or imprecise for describing data. “Very high of approximately 75 percent” is awkward, while “very normal not higher and not lower” does not communicate a meaningful comparison. “At the end” is also not an appropriate way to introduce the final country in a chart summary. There are spelling errors in “vey,” “spain,” “canada,” and “korea”; country names should be capitalised. Build a more precise range for trends and comparisons, such as “rose steadily,” “remained lower,” and “stood at,” and avoid subjective descriptions like “normal.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Most sentences use simple present-tense reporting structures, and the basic meaning is usually recoverable. However, the range of sentence forms is narrow, and errors recur in sentence construction and punctuation. For example, “In the years 1970 to 2020 the proportion of overweight in the USA is vey high of approximately 75 percent” has an awkward time phrase and an incorrect pattern after “high”; “rates between 60 to 70” also uses an inconsistent comparison structure. The sentence about Italy, France, and Austria is difficult to parse because the country list, time reference, and figures are not clearly connected. Practise accurate comparative structures and past/future time references, and use complete, clearly punctuated sentences to report the data.
