Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad subject and make relevant comparisons, noting that the USA is highest and Korea lowest, with both rising overall. The approximate figures for these countries are generally close to the chart. However, the overview is not sufficiently accurate or selective: the USA begins at about 45%, not 50%, and England begins around 47% in 1991, rather than 48% in 1990. More importantly, the claim that the other countries are all at an “average level” and rise from 30% to 60% is too broad: their starting points and 2020 levels vary considerably, and Australia reaches about 64%. Include a clearer overview of the overall upward pattern and the range of outcomes, then support it with accurate comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to higher and lower rates, and signposts such as “Overall,” “Besides,” and “In addition” show an attempt to organise information. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the second paragraph mostly repeats the task description, while the later paragraphs group countries without explaining the basis for comparison. The final sentence combines several countries and a wide range of figures, making the information difficult to follow. Some linking phrases feel mechanical, and references such as “the rest of others” are unclear. Organise the report around a concise overview followed by meaningful comparisons, and use linking words only where they clarify the relationship between points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a graph, including “rates,” “proportion,” “rises,” and “highest,” so the main topic is usually understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “higest,” “comparision,” “showes,” and “aproximatly.” Phrases including “average level” and “peak (60%)” are imprecise for describing the different country trends, while “changes dramatically” does not clearly convey England’s overall increase. Aim for accurate trend language and more precise comparisons, such as describing rates as “climbing steadily” or “remaining relatively stable.” Check spelling and use natural collocations, for example, “the rate in Korea” rather than “the lowest overweight rate in Korea.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of sentence forms, including relative clauses and time expressions, but control is inconsistent. For example, “this graph showes” has subject–verb disagreement, and “the highest trend which is USA started” lacks a clear grammatical structure. The sentence beginning “The second highest trend is England which was started…” uses an incorrect passive form; a direct construction such as “England’s rate began…” would be clearer. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “Overall, The graph,” and punctuation and spacing around figures need attention. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “while” or “whereas” to make comparisons.
