Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You provide a brief overview that rates generally rose and identify the USA as highest and Korea as lowest, which are relevant main features. However, several details do not match the graph: the USA rises from about 45% to 74%, not from 30% to under 50%, and the other countries do not all begin in the 1980s–1990s at the low levels stated. The overview is also too broad to show meaningful comparisons, and most countries’ trends are not accurately described. The response contains 117 words, below the required 150; 18 words copied from the task prompt were excluded from that count. Add accurate comparisons and key figures to develop the summary more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an overview and then referring to individual countries. The contrast between the USA and Korea also gives the reader a possible organising focus. However, the ideas are not arranged into clear, developed paragraphs, and the long final section combines several countries and comparisons without a clear sequence. Connections such as “other countries like” and “this italy and canada” are unclear, so it is difficult to tell which figures or trends belong to which countries. Use a separate overview and a body paragraph grouping higher and lower rates, and connect each comparison explicitly. This would make the information easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “upward trend,” “highest rate,” and “lowest figures,” and you attempt to describe scale and percentage. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are unclear, such as “large scale from all of them,” “last scale,” and “percentage likely.” Spelling errors, including “relvent,” “comparision,” and “consistentaly,” also reduce clarity. Choose precise terms for graph descriptions, such as “proportion,” “rose,” “remained,” and “approximately,” and use them in accurate combinations. Naming the countries consistently and avoiding vague phrases would help readers understand the comparisons.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, and the opening overview communicates a general trend. However, sentence structures are very limited and frequent errors make several statements difficult to interpret. For example, “The line graph illustrate change” has subject–verb agreement and sentence-completion problems, while “USA is have a large scale” combines incompatible verb forms. Missing articles and unclear sentence boundaries also occur in “proportion overweight start from 20%.” Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, tense, and punctuation. For example, write “The proportion of people who were overweight started at…” rather than using a fragment.
