Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad pattern that the USA has the highest rate and Korea the lowest, and you include several relevant figures, such as the USA rising from about 45% to roughly 75% and Korea reaching around 35%. However, the overview is brief and does not clearly summarise the overall rise across most countries or compare the leading and lowest groups. Some details are inaccurate: the USA ends at about 74%, not 75% (a small approximation), but Austria reaches only about 46.5%, not 48%, and France ends at about 44%, rather than 46%. Australia’s increase is notable, but the response does not give its endpoint or compare it clearly with other countries. Select and report the main trends more fully and check figures against the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph of country details. It also uses some sequencing and contrast markers, including “Overall,” “after that,” and “Whereas,” so the reader can follow the general direction of the account. However, the progression is not consistently clear: several countries are packed into one paragraph, and the final sentence groups France and Korea without explaining their different trends. Some transitions are awkward or incomplete, such as “at the second Canada” and the opening “Whereas” in the overview. Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, the highest-rate countries and the lower-rate countries—and use linking phrases that show how each sentence relates to the previous one.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing a graph, including “proportion,” “fluctuations,” “stability,” and “increased,” and the country names and percentages make the subject clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less natural. For example, “proportion of overweight rates” is redundant, “most overweighted nation” is not an appropriate description of a rate, and “takes rose” is unclear. “Most significant increase” is a useful comparative phrase, but it would be stronger if supported by a precise endpoint. Aim for accurate graph language such as “the proportion of people who were overweight,” “the rate rose,” and “remained stable,” while avoiding repeated or improvised expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the reader can generally understand the intended trends. However, errors are frequent, particularly in verb forms, sentence boundaries, articles, and punctuation. For example, “The United States overweight rate is approximately 45% it slightly dip” combines clauses without suitable punctuation and uses an incorrect verb form; “the Korea has” has an unnecessary article; and “Australia from 1989 to 2019 it has” lacks a clear grammatical structure. Capitalisation is also inconsistent, as in “Overall, The Usa.” Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, maintain past tense for historical data, and use future or projection language only where appropriate. Practising accurate compound sentences would improve clarity.
