Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad pattern that the USA had the highest rates and Korea the lowest, and you include some relevant figures, such as the USA rising to about 74% and Korea reaching 35%. However, the response only partially summarises the graph: it gives little account of the other countries’ distinct trends and does not clearly compare their levels. Some details are inaccurate: Korea begins at about 25%, not 10%, and England’s final figure is about 69% in 2019, rather than 70% in 2020. The claim that the USA was the highest throughout is also not supported, as its rate dipped slightly between 1972 and 1980. A fuller overview and more accurate selection of key comparisons would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, so the reader can recognise an attempt to organise the information. However, progression is limited: the final paragraph repeats the idea that several countries had “moderate” rates without describing their individual patterns, and England appears in both the preceding and final paragraphs. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “In contrast,” and “At the end” are used, but they do not always show a clear relationship between the points. Group the countries by meaningful trends or levels, and use comparisons to connect the details rather than repeating broad categories. Clearer referencing would also help readers follow which country each sentence describes.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “overweight rates,” “increased,” and “recorded,” and the main subject remains understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated or used unnaturally, such as “moderate number of proportion overweight” and “the graph grow.” Spelling errors, including “Koera” and “dramtically,” also reduce accuracy. Choose precise language for describing trends and comparisons, and check country names and word forms. For example, “the rate rose” is more natural than “the graph grow,” while “a moderate proportion” is clearer than “moderate number of proportion.” These improvements would make the report easier to read and more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a contrast introduced by “however,” but control is inconsistent. Frequent errors in verb forms and agreement appear in phrases such as “the USA overweight rates was,” “they was recorded,” and “the other countries … was recorded.” Sentence construction is also faulty in “the USA only country who proportion started on 45%,” where the subject and relationship between ideas are unclear. Articles and prepositions are often missing or incorrectly used, and some sentences run together without effective punctuation. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns first, then combine clauses: for example, “The USA’s rate began at 45% and rose to 74%.” More reliable sentence control is needed for the meaning to come through consistently.
