Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad pattern that the USA is highest and Korea lowest, and you include several country comparisons. However, the overview is brief and some key details are inaccurate or unclear. The USA is described as starting at about 45% and reaching 74%, which is broadly accurate, but England’s 2020 figure is given as almost 70% rather than about 69%, and Australia is said to begin in 1987 at 35%, although its series starts around 1990 at 34%. More seriously, Korea is reported to rise from 15% to 45%, while the chart shows roughly 25% to 35%. Austria, France and Italy are also incorrectly grouped at 55% in 2020; their endpoints are about 47%, 44% and 46%, respectively. Select the main trends more carefully and check figures against the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic progression: an introduction and overview are followed by comparisons among groups of countries. Phrases such as “Although” and “Subsequently” show an attempt to connect ideas, and the country groupings give the reader some structure. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the second paragraph moves between the USA, England and Australia without clearly distinguishing their starting and ending figures, while the final paragraph combines several countries with different trends. Some linking words are used awkwardly, and punctuation is often missing after sentence boundaries, making the text harder to follow. Use separate, clearly focused paragraphs and organise comparisons by high, middle and low rates, with accurate references such as “by 2020” to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing a graph, including “proportions,” “percentage,” “started” and “reached,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or repetitive. “Overweight rate” and “proportion of overweight rates” are awkward; “proportion of people who were overweight” is more natural. Spelling errors such as “Beginng,” “approximetly,” “follwing,” “Austalia” and “Itlay” are noticeable and reduce precision. Some expressions, including “followed USA and england,” do not clearly convey the intended comparison. Build a small set of accurate trend phrases—such as “rose steadily,” “remained relatively stable” and “ended at”—and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentences and subordinate clauses, for example, “Although, in 1987…” and “Korea has the lowest…,” but control is inconsistent. Subject–verb agreement errors occur in “USA, Australia and England has” and “Spain and Canada… has reached.” Tense and sentence construction are also problematic: “Beginng from1970” is not a complete, well-formed opening, and the sentence beginning “USA has the highest percentage… starting with…” mixes the endpoint with the starting point unclearly. Missing spaces and punctuation, including “countries.USA” and “USA,from,” further disrupt readability. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and build shorter comparison sentences first, then combine them with correctly punctuated clauses.
