Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You provide an introduction and an overall statement that rates generally rose, and you identify the USA as showing a particularly large increase. However, the overview is broad and does not capture key comparisons, such as the USA remaining highest and Korea lowest near the end. Several details are inaccurate or unclear: the USA’s early decline was around 1972–1980, not “by 1978”; Austria and Australia were not at the same level in 1995 (about 39% and 38%); and Canada and Spain were not equal in 2009 (about 52% and 52%, approximately, though the graph places Canada slightly lower). The account also omits most countries and gives little precise support, so the main features are only partly reported. Select the clearest trends and compare them accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs divided by time period. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression within the body is difficult to follow because several countries and time points are introduced without a clear comparison or consistent order. Linking phrases such as “Along that,” “Lastly,” and “At last” are repetitive or do not clearly show the relationship between ideas. The reference in “Australia’s status crossed with Spain as well as Canada” is also unclear. Grouping countries by their overall levels or trends, then using accurate time markers and straightforward links such as “by contrast” and “similarly,” would make the account easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentage,” “projected,” “fluctuated,” and “increase,” and the reader can generally identify the topic and direction of change. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a graph. “The percentage of the overweight” and “Australia’s status” are imprecise, while “kept a steady growth” does not express the trend naturally. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “noticalble,” “noticable,” and “flactuated.” Use precise terms such as “proportion of people who were overweight,” “rate,” and “rose steadily,” and check spelling carefully. More varied, accurate trend vocabulary would help you describe comparisons with greater precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including “Moreover, USA had a greater increase than most other countries.” However, the range is limited, and errors recur in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “between the years of 1970-1995” is awkwardly formed, “Canada and spain was on the same number” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “USA had” needs an article or possessive form. Several sentences also run together after full stops, as in “increase. However,” and “Lastly, between.” Use consistent past tense for historical data, check singular and plural agreement, and separate sentences with correct spacing and punctuation. These changes would make your meaning clearer.
