Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the overall upward direction and make relevant comparisons, including the USA’s high endpoint, Korea’s lowest rates, and Australia’s rise to above 60%. However, the overview is too broad: “All countries are showing upward trends” overlooks fluctuations and does not clearly summarise the main contrast between the highest and lowest countries. Some details are inaccurate or unclear. The USA began at about 45%, dipped slightly by 1980, then rose; it did not simply “start declining” and rise “since 2020.” Austria and Italy did not finish at the same level: Austria was around 46–47%, compared with Italy at about 45–46%. Several countries receive little detail, so the report only partly selects and develops the graph’s key features.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure and groups some countries together, which helps the reader follow the report. Comparisons such as England and Spain, and Austria and Italy, are relevant. However, progression is uneven: the opening gives a general statement, while the country-by-country paragraphs do not consistently organise information by major trends or levels. Linking phrases such as “At first,” “On the other hand,” and “Finally” are sometimes used imprecisely, and “For Canada” begins a new point without a clear connection to the preceding comparison. Some references, including “it” and “this period,” are unclear. Grouping countries into high, middle, and low-rate trends and using clearer links would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “overweight rates,” “gradually,” “fluctuation,” and “at the end,” and you attempt to describe changes and comparisons. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. “Dominator” is not suitable for describing the USA’s position, and “jumped into more than 60%” is an awkward way to report a rise. There are also spelling errors such as “Itely,” “trens,” and “begining,” alongside repeated use of “rate” and “start.” Use precise trend language and check spelling to make descriptions clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, but errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between events difficult to follow. For example, “In 1970 it start declining since 1980” has an incorrect verb form and an unclear time relationship; “England reach almost 70%” and “it start after the year 1990” also need past-tense forms. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “Australia and France was,” and articles and sentence boundaries are often missing or awkward. Most sentences rely on basic patterns, with limited accurate control of complex structures. Practise past-tense reporting and agreement, and build longer sentences around clear clauses, such as “After dipping slightly by 1980, the US rate rose steadily.”
