Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response makes a limited attempt to describe the graph, mentioning the USA, Korea, Canada and several other countries, but it does not consistently report the visual data. The overview focuses on health effects and risk rather than the main trends: most countries’ rates rose, and the USA remained among the highest, while Korea was lowest. Several details are inaccurate or unsupported: Canada’s rate was already about 50% in the mid-1990s, not absent until 1990; Korea’s figure of about 25% is for 1998, not 1999; and the graph does not show that 75% of people were overweight in 2020 (the USA was about 74%). Replace medical commentary with accurate comparisons and key trends.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation: an opening, a brief overview, and paragraphs that move to country-specific details. However, the progression is not consistently clear because the response shifts from the USA and Korea to Canada, then lists other countries without describing their figures or trends. Connectors such as “Meanwhile” and “Afterwards” provide some linking, but the relationships between ideas are sometimes unclear, and the overview does not guide the reader through the data. Group countries by comparable patterns or levels, and use each paragraph to report a coherent set of trends. Clearer referencing and more purposeful transitions would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response attempts some topic-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “gradually,” “approximately,” and “sedentary lifestyles,” and it uses terms such as “cardiac issues” and “atherosclerosis.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a graph: “rapid weight changes” does not describe the overall trend, “hit people” is informal, and “safer side” is imprecise. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “occuring,” “korean's,” “sedantry,” and “The rose in weight.” Aim for precise reporting language such as “the rate increased,” “stood at,” and “reached,” and avoid adding medical claims that the graph does not provide.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes some simple sentences and attempts longer structures, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “obesity increase gradually but it increase” has problems with tense and agreement, while “The countries like USA and Canada are at high risk of obesity” is awkwardly formed. Articles, plurals and possessives are also inconsistent in phrases such as “45% people” and “50% of Canadian were obese.” Punctuation and spacing need attention, including the missing space after the opening full stop and the stray closing bracket. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build longer sentences from correctly controlled clauses.
