Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the graph’s subject and give a broad overview that the USA is highest and Korea lowest, which captures an important overall pattern. You also report several country trends and approximate figures. However, the overview is incomplete: most countries rise, but the response does not clearly summarise this shared trend or compare the countries’ different levels. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the USA reaches about 74%, not 75% (a small difference), while Austria is around 46–47% in 2019 rather than 48%; Australia is about 64%, rather than 62%. The final claim that Italy, France and Korea all end at roughly 35% overlooks France’s higher figure of about 44%. Select the most significant comparisons and report them more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by two body paragraphs, and phrases such as “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” signal a change in focus. However, the grouping is not consistently logical: the first body paragraph moves through several countries without explaining why they belong together, while the second groups Italy, France and Korea despite their different ending rates. The sequence of comparisons can therefore feel like a list rather than a clear progression. Some linking phrases are also awkward or do not express a meaningful contrast. Organise the details into clearer groups, such as the highest-rate countries and the lower-rate countries, and use straightforward links like “Meanwhile” or “By contrast” where appropriate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant graph vocabulary, including “rate,” “increased,” “started” and “ended,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “increased rapidly by 75%” when describing a rise to a value, “grew little bit,” and “ended on an average mark.” Spelling errors—including “contr ies,” “gown,” “bigan,” “stared” and “aproxem atily”—are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause. Aim for precise terms for values and trends, and check spelling carefully. For example, distinguish “rose to 75%” from “rose by 30 percentage points,” and use “approximately” when giving estimates.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to combine information in longer sentences, for example when describing England and Canada, and the basic meaning is often recoverable. However, the response relies heavily on simple sentence patterns, and attempts to connect clauses are frequently faulty. In “England started in the year 1992 with 48% and gown close to USA,” the verb form and the construction after “close” are not controlled; “which were near to 70%” also has an unclear reference. There are recurring problems with articles, prepositions and sentence boundaries, as in “in the all years” and “in 2020 it ended with 55%.” Practise accurate comparative structures and past-tense reporting, such as “England rose to nearly 70%, while Canada reached about 55%.”
