Student answer (Band 6.0)
The line graph below illustrates past and present overweight rates and it's expected increase in future across nine different countries.
Overall, the proportion overweight was highest in US in the past and is expected to be the highest in future, while the proportion overweight would remain the lowest in Korea as it was in the past.
From 1970 to 1980, the proportion overweight was for USA alone was around 45% which steadily increased over the years and is expected to increase around 75% in the year 2020. The overweight proportion in Australia and England started to rise during 1990s and is projected to rise to 65% and 70% respectively.
Spain and Canada would show above 50% proportion for overweight and France, Italy and Austria would account for below 50% overweight proportion by the year 2020. During the period from 1990 to 2000, Korea showed 25% in overweight proportion which would be expected to increase slightly to 35% makinh it the least in proportion amongst all the other OECD countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main overall pattern: the USA is highest and Korea lowest, and you give several end-point comparisons, including Australia and England at about 65% and 70%. These are relevant features and broadly match the graph. The overview is also clear, though “in the past” is too broad: the USA is the only country shown as early as the 1970s, so the graph does not establish that it was highest across all countries in the past. Some details are under-developed or imprecise. For example, Spain and Canada are grouped as above 50% by 2020, but their approximate figures (55% and 55%) are not stated, and the claim that Korea rose from 25% “during 1990 to 2000” does not clearly distinguish its 1998 starting point from its later projected value. More precise comparisons and a clearer account of the overall rises would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs of supporting details. The progression from the highest and lowest countries to comparisons among the remaining countries is generally understandable. However, the body paragraphs group information somewhat loosely, and the final paragraph combines several countries without explaining their relative positions or trends. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “and” to join country comparisons. References such as “it” in “makinh it the least” are not fully clear, while “From 1970 to 1980” does not connect smoothly to the USA’s subsequent trend. Organise the details into clearer groups—for example, higher-rate countries and lower-rate countries—and use more precise transitions and references to make the comparisons easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “overweight rates,” “increased,” “projected,” and “account for,” so the meaning is generally clear. There is also some variation in how trends are described. However, several phrases are awkward or repetitive, such as “proportion overweight,” “overweight proportion,” and “above 50% proportion for overweight.” “Would show” is also an imprecise way to describe a projected figure, and “it's expected increase” is not a natural collocation. The spelling error “makinh” is noticeable. Aim for concise, conventional chart language, such as “the proportion of people who were overweight,” “is projected to reach,” and “remained below.” This would make the report sound more natural and precise without requiring a much wider vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including the overview clause “while the proportion overweight would remain the lowest in Korea” and sentences describing projected changes. Most of the intended meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. In “it's expected increase,” the possessive/contraction and verb pattern are incorrect; use “is expected to increase.” The sentence “the proportion overweight was for USA alone was around 45%” contains a duplicated verb and an incorrect article pattern. Tense and modal use are also inconsistent: “would show” and “would be expected” are used for chart projections where “is projected to” would be clearer. Review sentence structure, articles, and consistent present-tense reporting of the graph alongside future projections.
