Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad pattern that the USA had the highest rate and Korea the lowest, and you include several relevant country trends. However, the overview is brief and partly unclear: Korea is described as having the “lowest rates” without specifying that this applies across the period, and the response does not summarise the overall upward movement across most countries. Some details are inaccurate or imprecise. For example, Australia is said to reach 63% in 2020, whereas the chart shows about 64%; the USA’s initial fall is around two percentage points, not “almost 2%” as a rate; and the claim that France, Italy and Austria fluctuated significantly overstates their generally rising trends. Select the main comparisons more clearly and report the data accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs of country details. Time markers such as “Subsequently,” “between 1980 and 2020” and “Then” help the reader follow the chronology. However, the progression within the detail paragraphs is not consistently clear, as countries and periods are grouped without an evident comparison or organising principle. Some linking words are also awkward or do not express the relationship precisely, such as “However” before the France, Italy and Austria figures. The overview’s second sentence is difficult to interpret, which weakens the connection between the main features. Group countries by similar trends or rate levels, and use clearer references and transitions to make the comparisons easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “increased significantly,” “dropped slightly” and “rose gradually,” so the main trends are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. Phrases such as “percentage of overweight,” “highest proportion overweight rates” and “was a significant fluctuate” do not express the data naturally. There are also spelling errors, including “overwight,” and “others countries” is not correctly formed. Aim for precise, natural expressions such as “the proportion of people who were overweight” and “the rate rose.” Vary trend language only when it accurately reflects the size and direction of change.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “While” and time clauses such as “between 1980 and 2020.” However, errors in verb forms, agreement and sentence construction occur throughout and sometimes make relationships unclear. For example, “Korea was the lowest rates” has incorrect agreement and structure; “France, Italy, and Austria was” should use a plural verb; and “The percentage … in Spain was increase” uses an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “While Korea…” is also incomplete as written. Work on forming complete overview sentences, matching subjects and verbs, and using past-tense verbs consistently when describing historical data. These corrections would make your meaning more reliable.
