Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response identifies a broad upward trend and notes that the USA finishes highest while Korea remains comparatively low. It also includes some relevant figures, such as Korea at about 25% and England reaching roughly 69%. However, the overview is unclear and several details are inaccurate: the USA starts at about 45%, not 40%, and England’s series begins around 1991, not 1986. The claim that Austria and Italy reach the same 45% in 2020 is also unsupported; the chart ends around 46.5% for Austria and 45.5% for Italy in 2019. The response omits useful comparisons across the other countries and does not clearly distinguish historical from projected data. It is five words below the required minimum. Select the main highs, lows and overall trends, then report them accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an attempted overview and two paragraphs of details. This gives the response some organisation, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is limited because the overview is difficult to interpret, and the two detail paragraphs do not group countries or trends in a clear way. “Looking in to the figure” and “Turning towards in to the figure” repeat the same transition without helping the reader follow a comparison. Some references, such as “in the below,” are unclear. Organise the body around meaningful groups—for example, the highest and lowest rates, or countries with similar end figures—and use linking phrases only where they clarify those relationships.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “proportion overweight,” “fluctuation,” “increasing” and “second highest.” This shows an attempt to describe trends and compare countries. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or collocations make the meaning awkward: “before and present overweights rates,” “most rise countires,” and “maintained upcoming overweight rate” are not natural ways to describe the graph. Spelling errors such as “begining” and “comparsion” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional chart language, such as “overweight rates,” “rose steadily,” and “the lowest proportion,” and check spelling before submitting. More varied verbs for increases, stability and fluctuations would help make the account clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a few longer sentence forms, including “Other nations also increasing and having fluctuation in between then again increasing,” but these structures are often faulty. Missing verbs and incorrect forms occur in “Other nations also increasing” and “Austria is begining,” while “USA is the most rise countires” has problems with sentence structure and agreement. Articles, prepositions and tense choices are also inconsistent, as in “in the below” and “England is growing from 48% in 1986 and goes up to 69%.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Build accurate simple sentences first, then add controlled complex forms: for example, “The USA’s rate rose from about 45% in 1972 to a projected 74% in 2020.” Check verb forms and sentence completeness.
