Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad pattern that the USA is highest and Korea lowest, and you include several relevant figures, such as the USA at about 45% in 1972 and Korea at 25% in 1998. However, the overview is incomplete: it does not summarise the general upward trend across most countries or distinguish the countries’ different levels of growth. Some details are inaccurate or unclear. The USA reaches about 74% in 2020, not 75%, and the claim that it peaked at 69% conflicts with that figure. The comparison of Australia and France as starting similarly is not supported: Australia begins at about 34% and France at 31%. Several countries, including England, Spain and Italy, receive little or no meaningful coverage. Select the main trends and compare the highest, lowest and notable changes more accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview and a body paragraph, and it attempts to group countries for comparison. However, progression within the body is difficult to follow because several countries and time periods are compressed into long, loosely connected sentences. For example, the USA discussion shifts abruptly to England and then Austria, while the final paragraph moves from Australia and France to Canada and Korea without clear transitions. Linking words such as “whereas” and “while” are used, but the relationships they signal are sometimes unclear. Separate the information into more focused paragraphs, group countries by trend or level, and use clear references and transitions so each comparison is easy to track.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “decline,” “increased” and “fluctuated,” and the reader can generally identify the countries and trends you intend to describe. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural, such as “largest nation in terms of obesity,” “accounted as the smallest country in overweight” and “maintain stability managed to reach.” Spelling errors, including “englad,” “inrease,” “affter” and “rised,” also make parts of the response harder to read. Aim for precise chart language and check spelling carefully. For example, describe a country as having the highest or lowest rate, and use “rose to” or “remained stable” rather than less natural combinations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to describe change over time and use some linking structures, but the range of sentence forms is limited and many sentences contain errors that make the relationships between ideas difficult to understand. Examples include “The usa proportion started in 1972 as approximately by 45%” and “austria from 1980 to 2000 maintain stability managed to reach 45%,” where sentence structure and verb forms are faulty. Tense control is also inconsistent, as in “has rose” and “has increased,” and punctuation is often missing between clauses. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, using past simple for historical data and future forms for projections. Shorter, accurately punctuated sentences would improve clarity.
